The insurance comparison platform offers an array of Fintech services and solutions. It displays hundreds of insurance quotes for various products like cars, homes, bikes, vans, travel, taxis, etc. Multiple insurance quotes for different products make it easier for people to compare policies better. Users can fill in a website form with their product details to get quotes from top insurers before selecting the policy that best suits their budget.

Even though the website’s older UI had a few enlisted insurers and the Fintech provider was getting customer response, it wasn’t getting the kind of traction he had hoped for. Realizing this, he decided to give the UI a significant overhaul.

The Fintech client wanted to migrate everything from the old UI to a new UI. Although he got his in-house team to handle the migration work, he needed someone to test the UI elements. He wanted a technology partner who had a passion for detail. He was looking for a partner who could QC UI designs of a huge number of page layouts without missing the minutest error. This is where they got in touch with Capital Numbers for help.

Apart from engaging us to get their UI testing done, the client also wanted us to add more insurers to their new UI. Since the existing website enlisted only a handful of insurers, it led to fewer listing fees or lower commissions. So, the client wanted to increase the listing of insurers, maximize listing fees, and broaden insurance options.

The Solution

Capital Numbers started working with the client’s team to begin the UI testing process. The client would raise tickets for various subsystems or insurance pages on Jira, and our QA team would begin assessing those subsystems and fixing UI issues for each. The type of UI issues we would fix included the following:

We had to position graphical elements correctly. We had to organize several buttons and bullet points. We needed to label some of the visual objects. We had to remove incorrect paragraph spacing. We needed to eliminate overlapping images. We also had to fix typographical errors.

A lot of these defects required code changes. Some needed skillful configurations. We had to get everything adjusted with HTML5/CSS3 elements to ensure there were no UI/UX issues.

We had to fix defects for multiple subsystems or insurance pages, for example, cars, homes, shops, salons, offices, and more. Our QA team would engage in daily scrum meetings to meet the client’s needs.

Like the above process, the client’s team would raise master tickets on Jira for our PHP engineers to add new insurer data like call center timings, phone numbers, etc. We would also create plugins to fetch data directly from the insurer company APIs. We would fetch some insurer data from the Jira requests and the rest (e.g., policy premiums, etc.) from the company APIs.

This way, we would continue to expand the insurer list. The scalable MySQL-powered database helped us get better control over the workflow even as the insurer lists grew.

Results

At the end of two years of UI testing and backend PHP work, the website underwent a sea change in performance and design intuitiveness. Visitors like staying on the website longer because of increased insurer options and better navigation.
