The Client

This UK-based eCommerce brand owns two shopping websites, both of which sell a variety of health supplements like protein bars, protein shakes, multivitamins, mass-gainers, etc. These shopping sites offer some of the best quality supplements to serve the needs of those who do rigorous workouts. Both sites allow shoppers to choose nearby parcel delivery shops from where they can pick up their packages.

As one of the leading eCommerce brands in the UK, this organization has around 150K+ customers and ships close to 20K orders each month through these websites. As a result, the shopping websites had to be robust enough to handle bulk orders and payments.

But, the existing eCommerce websites, one built using Magento and the other Shopify, stopped supporting new system enhancements. Innumerable bugs brought down the performance of both sites.

For example, the Magento platform used version 2.3, which didn’t support security improvements or new shipping solutions. The Shopify site had severe page loading issues due to the wrong code. Slow page loads led to users’ frustration and drove them to abandon the site. Moreover, the existing Shopify theme was quite dated. It required a new theme implementation.

Besides, both sites required extensive optimizations. For example, we had to adjust frontend elements, integrate newsletter forms, add an analytics tracker, and embed parcel shop finders.

The client made an all-important decision to partner with Capital Numbers to implement the above.

However, the client was initially unsure how to enhance the two websites most effectively. So, Capital Numbers recommended two expert developers - a Magento developer and a Shopify developer, who individually suggested the best solutions for each site.

For example, our Magento developer suggested we upgrade the existing Magento v2.3 to v2.4.3. The reason being the newer version prevents cross-site scripting and DDoS attacks. It also supports a variety of payment gateways and infrastructure updates.

Next, we added the EVRi ParcelShop Finder plugin to the upgraded Magento store. We integrated this plugin and a map to help online shoppers select the nearest parcel shop where they would like their parcels to be dispatched.

A newsletter section was also missing from the Magento website. So, we embedded the Klaviyo newsletter template to collect details of prospective customers and send promotional emails.

As far as the Shopify site was concerned, the graphics, texts, and links took quite a long to load. So, we replaced all the junk and optimized the website with good-quality code to ensure faster page loads.

The site also lacked an analytics tracker. So, we added the Google Analytics Tag Manager to help the client track user activities, conversions, traffic, and other vital metrics.

Moreover, the existing Shopify theme looked outdated. So, we added the Dawn theme, which boosts store performance and usability for merchants and customers. We integrated the EVRi ParcelShop Finder plugin into the Shopify website, as well, to improve its shipments.

Results

Within six months of continuous optimization, Capital Numbers could do away with all anomalies and bring the sites up to speed. Our Magento and Shopify developers regularly interacted with the client via MS Teams from day 1 to suggest and implement solutions in the areas he needed help with.

Our Dawn theme install has given the Shopify store a new look and decreased the page load time.
